Children’s Games underway

8 December 2014

The first day of competition is underway for the Napier Port Children’s Games team at the 48th International Children’s Games at Lake Macquarie, New South Wales.

The 18-strong team, the first to represent New Zealand at the Games, took part in last night’s (7 December) opening ceremony before competitions for the swimmers, sailors BMX riders and footballers began this morning. The competitions run until Wednesday (10 December) with teams returning to their home countries the following day.

Napier Mayor Bill Dalton is leading the games delegation, which includes coaches for each of the codes. Sport HB, Sport New Zealand and the Council is investigating the opportunity to bring the games to New Zealand, and in particular, Napier, in the future.
