Planning to Build Or Renovate on the Coromandel This Summer?
PLANNING TO BUILD OR RENOVATE ON THE COROMANDEL THIS SUMMER?
If you're thinking about a summer DIY project on your holiday home or bach on the Coromandel this summer - make sure you've got a good plan and you're prepared.
“DIY is a favourite hobby of many New Zealanders," says our Chief Executive David Hammond. "Plenty of kiwis will be using their time off from work during summer to get stuck in to work around the house including renovations."
“Our Council is here to help by processing building and planning consents and providing advice about what sort of projects will or will not require consenting," says Mr Hammond.
Under government legislation (The Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code and Resource Management Act) home owners are required to apply for resource consents for many aspects of renovations.
Councils have to process building consents within 20 working days, except over the Christmas/New Year period (from the 20 of December through to 12th January), when this statutory timeframe stops.
