Prosecutions in relation to dog attack

The Queenstown Lakes District Council is prosecuting one person in relation to an attack by two dogs on a child at Lake Hayes Estate last month.

The first charge, under S57 of the Dog Control Act, alleges that the person was in charge of the two dogs which attacked a child. The penalty for that offence is a maximum $3000 fine and an automatic order for the destruction of the dogs.

The second charge , under S53 of the Dog Control Act, alleges that the person failed to control the dogs. The penalty for that offence is a maximum $3000 fine.

As the matter is now before the court, the Council will not make further comment.
