Waikato Police urge caution on roads in the Waikato / Coromandel areas.
The current rain and wind have caused issues on many roads.
There have been trees blocking roads and surface flooding.
With high tide approaching soon for the Coromandel Peninsula it is important that people drive to the conditions and reduce their speed to give them more time to react to an unusual occurrence on the road.
There is a chance that low lying roads or roads near rivers may be subject to surface flooding.
Heavy rain around the Kaimai's has caused water on SH29 and some debris on the road.
Senior Sergeant Rupert Friend of the Waikato District Command Centre said "It is times like these that people should consider whether driving is essential or not.
If it is possible to postpone your travel till after the weather blows through then please do."
Police want everyone to make it safely through these few days leading up to Christmas so they can spend time with their families, so taking a little extra time now to ensure safety will help.
Currently all roads are open, but care is needed.
