Child struck by car at Titirangi Road, New Lynn

"Child struck by car at Titirangi Road, New Lynn "

Just after 9am this morning Police were called to Titirangi Road in New Lynn.

A 6 year-old girl who was crossing the road to go to a dairy on the other side has been struck by a car.

The child was at a pedestrian crossing which is controlled by traffic lights and at this stage the indications are that she had used the button to operate the lights and was crossing on a green-man pedestrian signal.

The young female driver of the car that struck the girl stopped at the scene and is now at the Waitakere Police station, assisting Police with enquries.

The child's family are with her at Starship Hospital and are being supported by Police and Victim Support.

The Waitemata Police Serious Crash Unit and CIB members are on the scene and an investigation is underway.
