Fatal Crash - Update - SH2 Paengaroa - Bay of
Plenty
Further to the earlier report of the serious
crash at Paengaroa: The crash involved a milk truck and a
car at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Wilson Road.
4 of the 5 people in the car were trapped and the Fire
Service are working to free them.
Of the people trapped
in the car, one has died at the scene and the other three
have critical injuries. One person got out of the car
unassisted and has minor injuries. 2 Rescue helicopters have
been called to the scene to fly the injured to hospital when
they are release.
The truck driver was not seriously
injured and is receiving supprt from Victim Support. The
Serious Crash Unit and the Commercial Vehicle Investigation
Unit are investigating the cause of the crash.
State
Highway 2 will remain closed for several hours and
diversions around the scene via State Highway 33 and Wilson
Road South are in
place.
