New Year's Eve celebrations to go ahead in Wellington

It's all on - New Year's Eve celebrations to go ahead on Wellington's waterfront

Wellington will be one of the first capital cities in the world to welcome in 2015 tonight – with fireworks, music, food and fun on the waterfront.

Though MetService is predicting periods of rain and strong winds in the next few hours, the weather is expected to clear later in the evening.

Wellington City Council’s celebrations are focused on the waterfront – and Frank Kitts Lagoon in particular. Come on down for a kids’ countdown at 9pm.

From 10pm Orchestra Wellington will play stirring movie themes – accompanied by images on a big screen. There’ll be a range of great food trucks on Taranaki Street Wharf, street performers and lots of other activity.

At midnight there’ll be fireworks over the harbour to celebrate the New Year.
