Designation lifted on central city properties

Good progress in the development of central city anchor projects means the designation can now be fully or partially lifted from a number of properties.

Christchurch Central Development Unit Director Warwick Isaacs says the designations, which identify land required for anchor projects, are a planning tool put in place as part of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan.

“The project teams have now further evaluated the South Frame, Stadium and the Performing Arts Precinct and determined which parts of the designated land are no longer needed to undertake the work,” he says.

“As a result of this work, land in the Performing Arts Precinct – the former Forsyth Barr property and a small section of land that is part of the Isaac Theatre Royal building property – have had the designation removed.

“A property adjacent to the Transitional Cathedral has been removed from the Stadium designation.

“The South Frame designation, which includes the Health Precinct and the Innovation Precinct, has been reduced to only Crown-owned land and land required for public space, such as laneways, and facilities for health and education in the Health Precinct.

“Where the designation is lifted, owners can continue to develop their land according to the applicable planning rules,” Mr Isaacs says.
