Public appeal in Canterbury results in arrest

Canterbury Police have arrested a 39 year old man last night (14 January 2015) in relation to two alleged incidents that occurred at Christchurch Hospital on 10 January 2015. It is alleged that the man assaulted one female and exposed himself to another.

Police are keen to hear from any other females who may have been approached by a man in a similar manner in Christchurch Hospital or Hagley Park last Saturday (10 January 2015).

The man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today on two assault related charges.

Police investigations are ongoing and the victims are being supported by Canterbury Police and Victim Support.

Acting Metro Crime Operations Manager, Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Ford, said “We would like to thank the public for their help in identifying a person of interest after an appeal posted on our Facebook page. The information we received had a direct impact on the investigation and resulted in yesterday’s arrest. Canterbury Police are determined to keep our District safe and by working in partnership with the community we can achieve our goal together.”

Anyone who was approached last Saturday (10 January 2015), or has information relating to these incidents, is asked to phone Canterbury Police on 03 363 7428 and leave a message with your contact details for the investigation team.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
