"Investigation continues into sexual assault"

Manawatü Police continue to investigate a sexual assault that occurred at a residential property in Linton Street, Palmerston North on 15 January, 2015.

Acting Detective Inspector Neil Forlong, Central District Field Crime Manager: says: "A dedicated team is working on the investigation and our main goal is to identify and locate whoever is responsible."

A team of 15 officers are working on the investigation.

"The area canvass is ongoing and good progress is being made with this."

The scene examination at the property was completed yesterday evening.

"Police has an increased presence in the wider central city areas with officers carrying out foot and mobile patrols.

"Information from the public can help us solve this assault and we have already received about half a dozen calls reporting suspicious activity in the wider central city areas.

"Police is grateful for the support from the public and I again want to remind the community to be vigilant and keep their eyes open for any suspicious activity, and secure their windows and doors," says Acting Detective Inspector Forlong.

If you witness suspicious behaviour occurring in your community, don't disregard it; call 111 at the time.

Officers still want to speak to anyone saw a male acting suspiciously in the Linton Street area between 1am and 3am on the morning of Thursday 15 January, 2015.
