Burglary of a pharmacy in Kerikeri

Friday January 16, 2015

Police caught a man riding a 50cc Moped scooter in Kerikeri soon after he had burgled a pharmacy in the town.

About 2.30am this morning the 24-year-old man broke into the Unichem Pharmacy. As he went inside an alarm sounded and he took off.

Just over an hour later Police found the man driving his scooter down the Heritage Bypass from Kerikeri Road. They activated their sirens and lights to get him to stop, but he continued driving towards Waipapa Road travelling at speeds of about 35km/h.

Eventually Police managed to get alongside him and he pulled over and stopped.
The man has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon, possessing a knife in a public place, failing to stop and burglary.

Pharmacy owner Vicki Douglas says there was damage to the door, but nothing had been taken.
She said Police had done a fantastic job and it was great to see them at the pharmacy when she went to check on it in the early hours.
