Studio One Toi Tū starting the year with Pride

Studio One Toi Tū is kicking off 2015 with a vibrant new showcase of work by young people from Auckland’s Rainbow Community.

The annual RainbowYOUTH Pride Art Exhibition, held in celebration of the Auckland Pride Festival 2015, features a range of artworks by young LGBTTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Takataapui, Transgender and Intersex) artists exploring and challenging themes relating to queer and trans identities.

“It’s exciting to see really edgy and innovative artworks tackling issues of significance to LGBTTI youth showcased in one of central Auckland’s premier community art spaces.

“This is a great occasion for the city to come together to understand and celebrate the diversity of our communities, culture and youth,” says Cr. Alf Filipaina, Arts, Culture & Events Committee Chair.

Studio One Toi Tū manager Echo Janman said the facility is a creative hub for Aucklanders.

“We’re proud to be hosting the RainbowYOUTH Pride Art Exhibition, one of the key events of the 2015 Auckland Pride Festival. I would encourage Aucklanders to take this opportunity to visit Studio One Toi Tū and really explore and enjoy the variety of programming on offer in this central community space.”

The Rainbow Youth Pride Art Exhibition is one of around 70 events on the 2015 Auckland Pride Festival programme, which features a mix of theatre, cabaret, burlesque, live music, workshops, pageants and parties. The exhibition is collated by the collective artisTRY, supported by RainbowYOUTH. Studio One Toi Tū is a community arts facility owned by Auckland Council.
