Opportunity for Update on ‘The Big Six’
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is hosting a late afternoon tea meeting onWednesday 28 January giving an update on how public comments made on The Big Six priorities late last year are being incorporated into the Long Term Plan for the region.
The meeting is on Wednesday 28 January at 5.15 – 6.30pm in HBRC’s Council Chamber, Dalton St, Napier.
“The public input has been very valuable for Councillors and staff looking ahead at this region in ten to thirty years, and despite the late notice, this will be a good chance for people to track where we are at in our planning,” says Helen Codlin, Group Manager Strategic Development.
This update follows the Council’s first meeting after the holiday break and is the first opportunity to have Councillors together to discuss developments, with the public well ahead of the Long Term Plan release in April.
Last year HBRC released a discussion document of priority topics for HBRC’s Long Term Plan, called The Big Six. The topics were: Energy future; Relationship with Māori; Regional economic development; Connecting our region (transport and communications); Wise land use; and Climate change.
HBRC hosted a number of public meetings to openly discuss these topics, then comments from the public and stakeholder organisations were considered by Council in November. Aspects of this input are being incorporated into a drafting of the Long Term Plan which will be open for public comments in April.
