Aucklanders united in favour of Skypath

Generation Zero is proud to announce that over 10,000 people have supported Skypath by submitting a resource consent submission through an online form created by Generation Zero.

“The huge response we have seen in just a few days shows how strongly Aucklanders support Skypath” says Generation Zero spokesperson Dr Sudhvir Singh. “The overwhelming support for this project underlines its importance as an iconic attraction and key transport link.”

Skypath is a walking and cycling path which will attach under the Harbour Bridge, connecting walkways and cyclelanes on both sides of the Waitemata Harbour. Generation Zero’s Skypath online submission form (www.generationzero.co.nz/skypath) launched on Monday. It simplifies the process of submitting to Skypath’s resource consent application, pointing to the need to provide more transport choices, Skypath’s ability to promote cycling and walking, and the ways Skypath will connect to other transport projects.

Dr Singh; “Aucklanders have been waiting for several decades for a walking and cycling path to the North Shore, the support shown for the resource consent application shows that they are determined to not let Skypath be delayed.”

Skypath is a public and private partnership costing $33 million to build, and will initially cost users $2-4 to cross.

Dr Singh; “With such strong support demonstrated for Skypath, the government should look beyond it’s myopic focus on widening motorways and agree to contribute to the funding of this project.”
