Wellington SPCA Open Day

Wellington SPCA will be holding its second annual Open Day on Waitangi Day, February 6th, at its Newtown Animal Care, Education and Community Centre, located at the historical Fever Hospital at 140 Alexandra Road on Mount Victoria.

This day is a chance for the community to get a behind the scenes view of the work of the SPCA, from the Inspectors and their animal ambulances, to live surgeries in our Veterinary Hospital, and a look in to the Animal Rescue Unit, the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The day will be action packed with fun activities to keep the kids occupied, including dog agility, toy making and bouncy castles plus there will be lots of stalls and yummy food to keep the adults happy.

Wellington SPCA Chief Executive Officer Iain Torrance says with last year’s event attracting more than 8000 people, the Open Day is a celebration of the Newtown Centre’s beautiful location and the great things that are happening for animal welfare within our community.

“This day is about making the most of where we are situated on the Town Belt and in this beautiful historical building. We want to let people know that we are here and that this Centre is a hub for animal welfare and a destination for the community. This is a chance for people, whether regular visitors to SPCA or people that have never been here before, to come along and enjoy a great day out while also learning more about animal welfare and what it’s we do here at Wellington SPCA.”
