SH1 near Templeton reopens following serious crash

SH1 Main South Road reopened shortly before2pm.

Canterbury Police and emergency services have cleared the scene of a serious crash involving three vehicles on SH1 Main South Road that occurred at approximately 11.20am this morning (26 January 2015).

Canterbury Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash where a blue south-bound car is reported to have veered into the other lane and hit a truck and trailer head-on before hitting the van travelling behind it.

The driver of the car and van were trapped in their vehicles for a 20-30 minutes.

The driver of the car has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition. The driver of the van was also taken to Christchurch Hospital and is reported to be in a moderate condition. The driver and passenger of the truck and trailer unit were uninjured but badly shaken.

Police investigations into the crash are underway.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Rolleston Police Station by calling 03 347 9248 and leaving a message with their contact details.
