Thrifty to launch a fleet of scooters in Wellington
Today Thrifty launched a fleet of scooters in
Wellington.
The scooters were trialled in Picton over the Christmas holidays and owing to their success Thrifty have bought a fleet to Wellington.
The EURO 50, 49cc scooters will be available from January 28 2015 until April 6 2015 (Easter Monday) and will give visitors to the region another option for getting around the capital city.
Thrifty's General Manager Emma Gardiner thinks the scooters will be an attractive option for people wanting to explore the sites around the city independently.
“Scooters are a really great way of packing a lot into a day in Wellington. We know over summer there will be a lot of people coming to the city for the Sevens and concerts and these will give them a bit more flexibility and freedom to explore,” says Ms Gardiner.
Thrifty’s city centre branch is located opposite Te Papa, making it an ideal launching pad for those wanting to explore Mount Victoria, Zealandia, the Weta Workshops, or go for a look around the city’s bays.
Parking a scooter is also much simpler than parking a car in the city.
Positively Wellington Tourism Chief Executive David Perks says the scooters will be a welcome addition to the capital of cool.
“While Wellington is a city easily explored on foot, there is so much to see both throughout, and on the edge of the city around the bays and the green belt. The scooters will be the perfect option for visitors wanting to see and do more with their time in Wellington. They should be a lot of fun!”
The
scooters are available for hire to anyone holding a valid
full drivers’ licence for $52 per day including insurance,
a helmet and a high-vis safety vest.
The EURO 50 Scooter
features:
· 4 stroke; 49cc engine
· 6 litre fuel tank; 1 litre of fuel per 50km
· Luggage storage – enough to fit your swimming gear or a bag of shopping
While the scooters will only be
available at Thrifty’s Wellington and Picton locations,
the company will review the success of the project and
consider offering scooters for hire at other locations in
the future.
