Strengthening Ties With Grow Wellington
Upper Hutt City Council and local businesses strengthen partnership with Grow Wellington
A guided tour for
Grow Wellington’s Business Attraction team has cemented
relationships and opened up new channels for promoting Upper
Hutt as a business and lifestyle opportunity.
Upper Hutt City Council hosted a tour for the Business Attraction team from Grow Wellington last week. Grow Wellington which forms part of the Wellington Region Economic Development Agency (WREDA) was invited by Council’s Economic Development Manager, Phil Gorman, as a means to update the agency on what Upper Hutt presents for both business, opportunity, and lifestyle.
“What better way is there to refresh people’s minds about a place than to invite them out for an unforgettable experience,” says Mr Gorman. “It is important to us as a city that when this particular agency is working with potential economic leads that Upper Hutt is at the forefront of their minds and I have no doubt after the visit this will be definitely the case.”
The visit highlighted some special and diverse activity and opportunity in Upper Hutt’s business community and showcased the residential and lifestyle opportunities Upper Hutt provides—all on a typical Upper Hutt summer’s day. The Grow Wellington team were treated to a guided tour of Upper Hutt highlighting the growth and development of the South Pacific Industrial Park, profiling the success of Upper Hutt breweries Panhead and Kereru. A guided tour through Leda, the plastic extrusion manufacturer on Park Street, showcased the specialised local and international market this business supplies with its unique products. Farrah Specialty Breads was also on the list, another Upper Hutt company with products excelling in local, national, and international markets.
The tour was designed to raise awareness and appreciation of some of the great things happening here in Upper Hutt—another channel to encourage others to set up business in the city. A number of land parcels that are available within Upper Hutt were also identified for potential future development.
Council also wanted to showcase the residential and lifestyle offerings in Upper Hutt. This was done by a meet-up with Malcolm Gillies at his latest residential project. The local property developer told of his exciting residential plans going forward.
Grow Wellington brought out a team of nine representatives including the General Manager of Business Attraction, Melissa Davies.
Ms Davies says the regional development agency is aware of the valuable contribution that Upper Hutt makes to the regional economy. “This visit showcased the diversity of businesses in Upper Hutt, and how passionate owners collaborate with each other, as well as the incredible lifestyle opportunities to be had.”
“Grow Wellington also works at an international level to attract business investment and skilled migrants to the region. This was a great opportunity to speak directly to owners who love doing business in Upper Hutt and only adds to our ability to promote the region to people considering moving, investing and even filming here.”
“Upper Hutt City Council can be applauded for
its willingness to roll up its sleeves and get behind their
local
businesses.”
