Want to have your say on Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s plans for the next 10 years?

You can help plan our region’s future over a cuppa with a local councillor at a drop-in session next Thursday 5 March.

The Council’s Long Term Plan sets out key challenges for the Bay of Plenty and how they will be tackled. Okurei Regional Councillor Arapeta Tahana wants to give residents the chance to discuss these big issues in an informal setting. He will be available to talk with any residents about the Council’s plans on Thursday 5 March from 4pm to 6pm at the Regional Council offices at 1125 in Arawa Street.

There’s also a session for Te Arawa members on Thursday, 4 March from 4pm – 6pm at Nukiteapiapi, Te Arawa Lakes Trust in Haupapa Street.

“We need residents’ help to find out what’s most important to them, and where we should spend a limited amount of money over the next 10 years,” Councillor Tahana said.

“The five key outcomes we want for our region are water quality and quantity, environmental protection, resilience and safety, regional collaboration and leadership and economic development but we want to know what you think of our plans. These are important choices for our community.”

“We need to consider changes to the work local government does, increasing costs particularly for areas losing population, changes to public transport demands and how we manage some large projects which will be ready to go at the same time.”

Anyone can make a submission online or by post before 4pm on 20 March. Hearings will be held throughout the region from 14 to 16 April and the Plan will be finalised in June.
