Signage bylaw: final oral submissions

Final submitters to the draft Auckland Council and Auckland Transport Signage Bylaw will voice their views at hearings in front of a panel of councillors and Auckland Transport representatives on Wednesday at 9.30am.

The proposed Signage Bylaw will manage the display, placement and size of signs in or visible from public places throughout the Auckland region.

The council received 183 written submissions on the draft bylaw with more than 50 requesting to speak. Speakers tomorrow will include representatives from nationwide chains and owner-operators through to Local Boards and community group representatives. Main points of discussion will include:

· The number, location and placement of portable signs
· The time portable signs have to comply with the bylaw
· Free standing signage - size and number of
· Existing use rights - will existing signs have to comply with the bylaw
· The size of sites for posters and the size of posters
· The relationship between the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan and the proposed new bylaw.

Once the hearings are concluded, public deliberations will be held next month and a date set to adopt the bylaw.
