KiwiRail media release

Tranz Metro services will be suspended between Wellington and Porirua on Thursday morning (26 February) due to a tree that fell onto overhead power lines near Takapu Road station yesterday.

Buses replace trains between Wellington and Porirua, however there will be limited buses available and customers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements on Wednesday morning.

Text and email alerts will also be issued to update customers.

The incident has caused significant damage to approximately 100 metres of overhead cabling which caused a power outage on the rail network in the are.

KiwiRail infrastructure engineers are on-site and are working to remove the damaged tree and train from the site tonight. The crew will then work to repair the damage and replace the cabling.

There is no timeframe as yet before track clearance can be given for services to resume.

The Capital Connection service will be bus replaced between Palmerston North and Wellington.

Please check the Tranz Metro website for updates.
