GigatownWanaka launches The Cell
The team behind the
GigatownWanaka Campaign has today launched The Cell, in the
first of several initiatives following the Chorus Gigatown
ultra fast broadband competition.
Aimed at growing and diversifying the local economy The Cell works as an incubator-style workspace designed to connect entrepreneurs and creatives with like-minded individuals, and is modelled off other successful international co-labs.
The space will offer members a unique environment that enables business and personal growth.
Hosting ultra high-speed wireless internet, along with the latest printing technology including a 3D printer, users will have 24/7 access to private meeting rooms, a kitchen, shower and changing facilities as well as lockers.
GigatownWanaka campaign manager Kelly Good says the socio-economic benefits to the community will be great. “By encouraging and fostering our local talent, we are growing a community that becomes not just a holiday destination, but a centre for innovation, a town where business success and lifestyle can be equally achieved. And by harnessing the collective creativity of our community we are setting a benchmark for other small towns not just on a national stage, but internationally as well,” Good explained.
Arna Craig, also part of the GigatownWanaka management team is positive about the workspace. “The Cell is about bringing our innovative community together. Wanaka finally has place for talented and creative minds to rub shoulders and share ideas which will have far reaching benefits for the whole community,” she said.
Members of the community are invited to a drop-in event from 4pm to 5.30 pm on Wednesday the 11th of March to view the premises. The GigatownWanaka team will be in attendance to answer any questions. The event will be sponsored by telecommunications provider Call Plus.
