Behind the Hedges 2015 set to sell-out
Horowhenua's popular country lifestyle trail Behind
the Hedges is well on track to sell-out for another
year.
The Sunday 15 March event will showcase eight lifestyle properties throughout the District, and will help raise funds for Te Takere Horowhenua Culture and Community Centre, as well as for Koputaroa School to redevelop its playground.
Event co-organiser and Koputaroa School Parent Teacher Association chairperson Jenny Warren says she is "absolutely delighted" with how ticket sales are going.
"We made 1000 tickets available and these are well on track to sell-out, so people should act now if they don't want to miss out," she said.
"Once again there has been huge demand from out-of-towners, but we've also noticed a lot more local interest this year too. We really appreciate that local community support."
The eight properties on the trail offer a variety of lifestyle experiences, with a range of refreshment, produce and preserve, as well as craft stalls available.
One is a 12-acre property in north-east Levin with extensive tree planting including cherry and black walnut, grown as speciality timbers for cabinet-making and joinery. Other features include pine nuts and a walking trail through regenerating native bush.
Another rural property in
Koputaroa will see visitors walk down a tree-lined driveway
to a well-established garden including over 200 roses in
bloom. A conservatory is available to enjoy the Devonshire
tea on offer.
Mrs Warren says more than half of the
visitors will be from outside the district including
Wellington, Kapiti, Manawatu, Wanganui, and Hawkes Bay.
"Horowhenua can only benefit from all these people seeing and experiencing what a wonderful lifestyle the District can offer," Mrs Warren said.
"That's what Behind the Hedges aims to do - surprise, delight and inspire people."
Mrs Warren says the event's name came about as most of the properties on the trail are hidden from the road and unseen by the public.
"Horowhenua offers some of the best lifestyle living in the country and we want to share it - and show it off."
Tickets cost $30 and are available at Te Takere or online at www.behindthehedges.org.nz, otherwise by phoning 06 367 3460. Gourmet picnic lunches can also be pre-ordered for $20 each.
