Owners of jewellery seized in Christchurch urged to contact Police

Canterbury Police have seized a quantity of jewellery as part of an ongoing investigation into the on-selling of stolen goods in the District. While some items have been returned to their rightful owner we still have a number of items that haven’t and we’re appealing for your help!

Detective Sergeant Donald Fisher said “We are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the jewellery in the attached images which was seized in the months leading up to the end of February 2015. Some of the jewellery appears to be very old and a few items have distinctive engravings which we hope someone will recognise.”

Canterbury Police work closely with second hand dealers and pawn shops and monitor social media and online auction sites in an effort to break the cycle of crime relating to theft and burglary.

“We encourage anyone who is offered an item at a ‘too good to be true’ price to contact Police or Crimestoppers with as much information as possible. Receiving stolen property is an imprisionable offence so please be buyer beware before you purchase something online or through word-of-mouth” Says Detective Sergeant Fisher.

Canterbury Police make every effort to return stolen property to its rightful owner. The public can help Police by taking photographs of their treasured possessions and marking items. Prompt reporting of any theft or loss can also assist Police and ongoing investigations and potentially enable lost items to be located.

Anyone who recognises any of the items in this release is asked to call Police on 03 363 7400, option 1, or alternatively message us through our Canterbury Police Facebook Page.

If your items are stolen you can retrieve and forward their details to Police and your insurance company.
