tate Highway 6 re-opens through Buller Gorge
State Highway 6 through Buller Gorge has re-opened to
two-lane traffic.
The highway was closed this morning after heavy rain brought a number of slips down in the lower part of the gorge. The biggest slip was 2000 cubic metres of trees, rock and mud which came down at Summit Creek.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Regional Performance Manager Pete Connors says our contractors have worked hard throughout the day to get the highway re-opened.
Flood waters have also receded on SH67, from Westport to Granity, and the highway is now passable to all vehicles.
“The rain has cleared in the area, however more rain is forecast tomorrow, so we are asking motorists to take extreme care on the highways and check our website before travelling.”
