Allow extra time when travelling in the Bay of Plenty next week

The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists travelling in the Bay of Plenty over the next week to drive with care and allow extra time as a major reseal programme continues.

Speed restrictions of 30km/h and stop/go traffic management will be in place at various state highway sites around the region.

Sites where delays of between five and 15 minutes are possible are detailed below to allow motorists to plan ahead when travelling.

State Highway 2 (SH2) between Paengaroa roundabout and Whakatane

Five reseal sites located between the Pukehina turn off and Otamarakau fromFriday March 6 until Tuesday March 10.

Stop/ go traffic management and speed restriction of 30km/h between the hours of 9am and 6pm.

Motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes when travelling on this route.

SH2 between Awaiti and Waimana (Edgecombe/ Taneatua area)

Multiple reseal sites will be along this route from Monday March 9 until Friday March 13.

Speed restrictions of 30km.h and stop/go traffic management will be in place

Motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes when travelling on the route.

SH2 between Tauranga and Katikati

Six reseal sites located between Te Puna and Katikati from Tuesday March 10 to Thursday March 12.

Stop/go traffic management and 30/km speed limit in place during working hours (9am-6pm) and after hours, due to loose chip.

Motorists are advised to allow an extra 15 minutes journey time.

SH2, between Katikati and Waihi

One reseal site at the north end of the Athenree Gorge on Friday March 13.

Stop/go traffic management and a speed limit will be in place between the hours of 9am and 4pm.

Motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes travel time

SH2 between Opotiki and Gisborne

Rock fall prevention works at three sites in the Waioeka gorge from March 9 until early April.

One lane will be closed and stop/ go traffic management will be in place while contractors dislodge rocks from the cliff face above the road.

Queue lengths will actively monitored however motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes journey time.

Welcome Bay Road

Road rehabilitation and widening between Kairua Road and Water Lane is currently underway until mid-March.

Stop/go traffic management and a 30km/h speed restriction will be in place during this time.

Motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes journey time.
