Cyclist charged following collision with pedestrian

Canterbury Police have charged a man following an investigation into reports that a cyclist, travelling north on the footpath near the intersection of St Asaph Street and Manchester Street, collided with a pedestrian as he stepped out of a doorway shortly before 6.45pm on 16 February 2015.

The pedestrian, a 54 year old man, was taken to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance with a fractured hip. He underwent surgery to join the bones back together and spent three nights in hospital.

The 24 year old cyclist is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today charged with careless causing injury.
