Next Steps in Residential Zoning Chapter Considered

After lively discussions at drop-in sessions in Queenstown, Wanaka and Arrowtown, QLDC staff and councillors are considering the next steps in the approach to residential zoning in the district plan review.

Cr Cath Gilmour, the Council’s planning portfolio leader, said a wide range of views were expressed and participants gave some constructive feedback on the proposals.

“While many people accept the need to manage growth by allowing carefully controlled development within existing urban areas, there were concerns on the impacts this would have on things like character, sun and privacy. We agree these are important – and we are trying to get the balance right.”

Staff are analysing the feedback and how it can be incorporated into the proposed district plan.

The next opportunity for public input on residential zoning will be when the proposed district plan is formally notified later in the year.
