Auckland Council to consider ‘Rainbow’ panel

Media release
16 March 2015

Council to consider ‘Rainbow’ panel

Auckland Council’s Community Development and Safety Committee is to consider establishing a ‘Rainbow Community Advisory Panel’ at its meeting on Wednesday.

The panel would provide a voice for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex (GLBTI) community in Auckland.

Community Development and Safety Committee chair, councillor Cathy Casey says that the creation of the panel will provide an important voice for the community in the same way other communities are represented.

“I want to ensure we have the widest possible representation on the panel of the GBLTI community,” she says.

“We have a responsibility to represent all groups within Auckland and this is an important step in that process.”

The council already has disability, Pacific, ethnic, youth, rural and seniors advisory panels.
