Vehicle Crash - Takaka Hill - National Alerts
Vehicle Crash - Takaka Hill - National Alerts
Details as follows for media release: At approximately 10:10am this morning a truck and trailer unit carrying cream north to Takaka has crashed approximately one km up the Takaka Hill on the Motueka side.
The driver has escaped with minor injuries only and is currently being attended to by ambulance staff.
Cream from the trailer is still leaking onto the road.
Police are on scene and the Takaka Hill is currently closed to all traffic in both directions.
Heavy salvage is on route and the truck company management have been advised. The cream is leaving a fat residue on the road which is very slippery and dangerous to traffic.
Efforts are being made to sand/grit one side of the road so one lane can be reopened as soon as possible.
Once the salvage operation takes place the road will be closed again for a short period. Tasman District Council have been consulted and have advised that there is no river within one km of the crash so there is no immediate environmental danger.
