The rain did its best to wash away the crowds gathered for Big Day Dowse in Lower Hutt on Sunday. But die-hard fans of the annual event would not be deterred. As always the annual event proved to be a crowd pleaser with all ages enjoying the free entertainment and activities.

Petone local, Megan Ball and son Joel are regular attendees and the threat of rain wasn't enough to keep them away today. "Everyone is still having a great time despite the rain and there's plenty to see and do inside the museum". People persevered dancing in the square until the rain moved everyone inside. Puppeteers, circus performers and face painters filled every corner of the museum.

Courtney Johnston, Director of The Dowse Art Museum says the day was a great success despite the weather. "The purpose of Big Day Dowse is to bring in the local community, to showcase and celebrate the best of the museum. We had some fantastic local acts and performers and the vibe remained positive and fun right to the last performance of the day, Newtown Rocksteady. The weather was damp but the mood was not!"

The decision was made early afternoon to abandon the main outdoor stage due to the unrelenting rain meaning headline act, The Black Seeds could not perform.
