Ready for the Semi Final

Ready for the Semi Final

The successful delivery of a reliable, uninterrupted flow of electricity during the Cricket World Cup has been a focus for Vector.

For Auckland, it all comes to a head on Tuesday with New Zealand up against South Africa in the first semi final at Eden Park.

Vector has ensured additional staff are rostered on to give extra cover where necessary, due to the difficulty of moving staff around Auckland city when matches of this size are on.

Our technical teams have been deployed in all key areas and have been working hard to ensure that we minimise restoration times in the event of outages.

Network summary for week ending 22 March 2015
Electricity

Vector poles had to be replaced after car v pole incidents in Mt Roskill, Mangere, Pukekohe, Ardmore, Wellsford, Kumeu, Hillpark and Forrest Hill. Power was isolated at the Forrest Hill site for safety reasons. There were also two car v pillar incidents in Glendene and Albany during the week.

Our crews isolated power to a meter box fire in Mangere Central during the week. Power isolations were also carried out for house fires in Weymouth, Otara, Massey, Papatoetoe and Onetangi.

Gas

There were reports of a smell of gas in Hamilton during the week. Our crews tested for leaks, with no trace of gas being found.

Projects
Vector is working with the Causeway Alliance on the State Highway 16 Causeway Upgrade Project in Auckland. This project will raise and widen 4.8 km of SH16, from Great North Road west to the Whau River bridge just before Te Atatu.

As part of this project, Vector is installing 6 km of 22kV cables which will feed supply from the Te Atatu substation to the northern portal of the Waterview Tunnel. This cable has the capacity to supply the whole of the Waterview Tunnel.

The service trench from Te Atatu to the tunnel will be shared between eight different services and has up to 12 ducts in some places. It runs under the shared cycleway alongside the motorway. This means the trench can be accessed for future maintenance, if required, without disrupting traffic. This shared cycleway will be upgraded as part of the project as well.

Vector has also relocated 11kV cables, lines and transformers to new locations along the route, supplying motorway and walkway lights. Gas and fibre relocation works have also been undertaken.
