Time nearly up for opinions on public transport

Time nearly up for opinions on public transport

Horizons Regional Council would like to remind residents the deadline for submissions to its draft Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) is fast approaching.

The draft RPTP covers all aspects of the Region’s public transport network including bus services, health shuttles and the Total Mobility scheme providing discounted taxi services for people who are unable to use other forms of public transport.

Transport manager Phil Hindrup says the draft Plan is out for consultation until Thursday 2 April and to date 15 submissions have been received.

“Some of the submissions so far have looked at improvements to the Feilding to Palmerston North service, more public transport options for Levin and Ashhurst, changing from diesel powered buses to a battery electric bus fleet and improving accessibility for people with disabilities,” he says.

“We’ve also had people expressing their support for the Capital Connection and suggestions to integrate it with Wellington’s Trans Metro at Waikanae.”

Mr Hindrup says the review provides the opportunity to include enhancements to the Palmerston North and Feilding bus networks, potential bus services between Wanganui and Palmerston North and Levin and Waikanae, and policy around Total Mobility services.

“A few submissions have mentioned the Enhanced Status Quo bus improvements for Palmerston North. These submissions have reiterated the need to cater for students and workers at the start and end of each work day, Summerhill services and IPC services.

Gordon Campbell: On Dune 2, And Images Of Islam

Depictions of Islam in Western popular culture have rarely been positive, even before 9/11. Whatever messages of tolerance and inclusion are offered in daylight, much of our culture tends to be hostile to Islam when we’re sitting in the dark, with popcorn.
Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
