Crews working hard to repair Depot and Federal Delicatessen

SKYCITY is hopeful that Al Brown’s Depot Eatery & Oyster Bar on Federal Street will reopen next week following yesterday’s fire.

Crews are assessing damage caused by the fire which spread through the internal ducting system from Depot, to the kitchen of Federal Delicatessen, leading to the evacuation of nearby office buildings.

SKYCITY Chief Operating Officer John Mortensen says the fire service attended immediately and quickly extinguished the blaze.

“The damage to Depot is not as bad as we thought and the kitchen is largely in one piece. Unfortunately this is not the case for Federal Delicatessen which will be closed for some time,” says Mr Mortensen.

“Maintenance crews will be working hard over the weekend to repair the ducting systems in Depot with the aim of reopening Depot next week. Obviously the safety of our customers and staff must come first.”

“We are very grateful that all our fire alarm, evacuation and security systems worked well and no employees or customers were hurt or injured. This is largely due to the efficiency and effectiveness of the New Zealand Fire Service and our fantastic staff.”

Chef Al Brown says although it was a sad day, the focus is now on repairing both restaurants.

“We’ve received a huge amount of support overnight from the wider Depot and Fed Deli family, which we are super grateful for. We’re now looking forward to getting the restaurants operational again as soon as possible and we’ll keep you all posted on our progress,” says Mr Brown.
