Minor delays for visitors to Mt Eden summit

Media advisory
10 April 2015

Minor delays for visitors to Mt Eden summit

Visitors to the summit of Maungawhau / Mt Eden may experience minor delays next week as contractors undertake minor stabilisation of an old quarry wall.

The work will stabilise the face of the Batger Quarry wall that supports a section of Puhi Huia Road which leads to the summit. It will involve securing steel mesh to the wall face to secure unstable material and prevent erosion.

The road will remain open to vehicles during the work, though there may be short delays at times. Contractors will be on site to safely direct traffic and pedestrians.

Coach parking will not be affected by the works, and shuttle services will continue to operate during this period to provide access for visitors with limited mobility.

The walking track between Hillside Crescent and Batger Rd will be closed as an extra safety precaution.

When: Monday 13 April – Tuesday 28 April, 7:30am – 5:00pm
Where: Puhi Huia Road leading to the summit of Maungawhau / Mt Eden.

People choosing to park at the base of Maungawhau / Mt Eden and walk up to the summit are reminded not to leave valuables in their car.
