Taranaki: Take two for ‘Pukeiti Puffer’ fun run

The annual charity ‘Pukeiti Puffer’ fun run will take place on Sunday (19 April) after heavy rain forced its postponement in March.

The event takes place at Pukeiti, 2290 Carrington Road, New Plymouth, and raises funds for the Cameron Clow Trust and TET Athletics Taranaki.

“Rain is never a surprise in a rainforest environment but there was far too much of it to run the event safely on the original date in March,” says the Taranaki Regional Council’s Regional Gardens Manager, Greg Rine. “The good news is that the postponement gives people another opportunity to pre-register and take part.”

The Puffer is staged with the support of the Shoe Clinic and TET Athletics Taranaki. Events on the day will include a 2km fun run for children, a moderately challenging 7.3km course for walkers and runners, and the 14.5km ‘challenge’ that includes stream crossings, narrow trails and hills. Entry fees range from a gold coin to $10, and there will be limited registrations on the day. Seewww.pukeiti.org.nz for more details and a registration form.

The fun run is part of a year-round programme of events, mostly free, at Pukeiti, Hollard Gardens and Tupare, the three heritage properties owned and administered by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.

Social media users can keep up with news from the gardens on Facebook (TaranakiRegionalGardens) and Twitter (@TaranakiRG).
