Missing Men Named

Aerial searches are continuing but have not revealed any sign of two men missing at Port Waikato.

Arthur Alfred Brown, aged 67 of Tuakau and Leslie Reginald Stokes, aged 57 of Pahiatua, have not been seen since Monday 6 April when they set off for a fishing trip at Port Waikato. Their boat was located upturned on Tuesday 7 April where it remains stuck on the bar. The boat has been searched, revealing that the men are not inside.

Police Eagle helicopter is continuing to conduct aerial searches at low tide during daylight hours.

Police and Victim Support is supporting the mens’ families at this difficult time.

Counties Manukau Police South Area Prevention Manager Inspector Mick Woods asks all boaties to take caution on the water at this time of year.

“All boaties need to keep in mind that crossing a bar can be a dangerous activity. We recommend when making a bar crossing to log your position with Coastguard. If you’re not experienced with bar crossings, it can be a good idea to get some advice from Coastguard or others who are local to the area.

“Additionally we recommend that life jackets are worn while on board; conditions on the water can change quickly and your life jacket could be your life saver.”
