Linklater Reserve to host Open Day

Linklater Reserve to host Open Day

If you’ve never been to Linklater Reserve, this Sunday 19th April between 12 noon and 3pm the whole 25.5 hectares will be open to the public to tour.

Palmerston North City Council encourages residents to visit and give them ideas on how they would like to see the reserve developed over the coming six years.

Currently only 5.5 hectares is open to the public and tours of the other 20 will be operating on a guided tour basis on the day.

“Council has allocated $1,248,000 over five years from 2016 to 2021 in the draft Long Term Plan to open up the rest of the Linklater Reserve and the development has received wonderful support already,” Aaron Phillips, Council’s senior property and parks planner said.

“Already a very popular spot for a short walk and exercising dogs, Linklater Reserve will be one of the biggest reserves in the urban area of the city,” Aaron said. “This is fantastic opportunity for the north eastern suburbs and the city generally to help make a space they can use and love.”

There will be lots of activities for the children including bouncy slides, obstacle courses and chariots. There will also be two 50 metre Slip and Slides, plus a shorter one for younger children and the Scouts will be running a sausage sizzle.

A gold coin donation gets you all the activities on site with proceeds going to the Fitzherbert Lions towards community projects with food and drink available for purchase.
