Last week for community awards nominations

Last week for community awards nominations

With nominations for the council-led Rotorua Lakes Community Awards closing on Friday (24 April), locals only have a few more days to ensure exceptional individuals are nominated so their achievements can be considered for recognition.

The awards, established by Rotorua Lakes Council in 1992, recognise Rotorua people who have demonstrated outstanding community service; made a significant difference to the Rotorua community; or achieved national or international recognition.

Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick said she is pleased the selfless work of many local people is celebrated through the Rotorua Lakes Community Awards.

“We have so many amazing people in our community who devote their time to helping others without any expectation of recognition. However these awards are an opportunity to celebrate our unsung heroes, and thank them for their generous contribution to our city.

“Our high achievers must also be acknowledged because we all take pride in their success and the kudos they bring to our city and district. We also admire their commitment to being leaders in their fields.

“I strongly encourage local people to nominate anyone in our community who they believe could be a worthy recipient of this award.”

Entry forms for the awards are available from Rotorua Lakes Council’s Customer Centre and the council website - rotorualakescouncil.nz (under ‘Our City’ tab, then ‘Community Awards’).

The Rotorua Lakes Community Awards will be presented at a function at the Energy Events Centre on Monday 15 June.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
