Slow voting in Arrowtown by-election
Arrowtown voters are being reminded to vote in the QLDC by-election currently underway, with barely one fifth of votes returned, half way through the election period.
QLDC Electoral Officer Jane Robertson said that as of today, 414 votes had been received, out of a total of 1895 registered electors. That equates to 21.85%.
The voting papers were posted two weeks ago and voting closes at noon on Friday 1 May.
Ms Robertson said she was hoping for at least a 50% turn out in the by-election. The position of Arrowtown Ward Councillor was last contested in 2010 and the return on that occasion was 59%.
“If people are posting their votes, they should get them in the mail by next Tuesday, or risk that they won’t be delivered by the deadline. After Tuesday, people can take their voting papers to the Arrowtown Library or the QLDC office in Queenstown, at 10 Gorge Rd.”
The preliminary result will be released later on Friday 1 May.
