Train fatality - Papatoetoe

Emergency services are currently at an incident involving a Freight Train hitting a pedestrian.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.40am this morning at the Papatoetoe Railway Station in Shirley road, Papatoetoe.

The deceased is believed to be a male aged 59 years.

Whilst yet to be confirmed Police believe they know his identity.

It has been reported the male was walking along the train tracks in a northerly direction towards the Papatoetoe Railway station when he was struck by the North Freight Train.

The Northern Communications Shift Commander Inspector Tony Wakelin said this has been a traumatic experience for the Train driver and Victim Support has been arranged for the driver.

" There will be considerable delays to morning commuters as it will take some time to clear the scene" he said.
