Hawke’s Bay
Regional Council notifies that Pekapeka Regional Park will
be closed to the public this weekend, for the opening
weekend of the game bird season.
The gate to the
wetland car park, interpretation area and walkways will be
closed and locked from late afternoon Friday 1 May to midday
Monday 4 May. The closure is for public safety and no public
access is permitted into the wetland area during this time,
except for authorised shooters.
The shooting is
permitted in the wetland for one weekend at the start of the
season as an agreement with local shooters who have
long-standing hides there. Shooters have been invaluable in
assisting Hawke’s Bay Regional Council with enhancement of
the wetland by planting and weeding.
Shooters are
also reminded that shooting is no longer permitted at East
Clive wetland since rules were changed for public safety in
2013.
