Air NZ 75 Years Exhibition to Land at Auckland Museum

Air New Zealand 75 Years Exhibition to Land at Auckland Museum in 2015

The airline which had its beginnings 75 years ago at Auckland’s Mechanics Bay, lands at Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira on 20 November 2015 with the exhibition ‘Air New Zealand 75 Years: Our Nation. The World. Connected.’.

Coming off the back of a successful run in Wellington at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, the exhibition developed in partnership with Te Papa, will be further developed by Auckland Museum using its expertise and local collections to refresh the experience with some Auckland specific stories.

“Auckland Museum is proud to partner with Air New Zealand as it celebrates this significant milestone in the same year Auckland city marks its own 175th anniversary,” says Auckland War Memorial Museum Director Roy Clare. “Air New Zealand is a true New Zealand success story and we are excited to host this free of charge exhibition for our visitors over the summer months.”

On 30 April 1940, a flight from Auckland to Sydney marked the first scheduled passenger air link between New Zealand and the rest of the world, today Air New Zealand is one of the country’s most loved brands with a long history of innovation. ‘Air New Zealand 75 Years: Our nation. The World. Connected.’ tells the story of how this first fledgling flight led to what is today an award winning international airline.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon says, “The exhibition has far exceeded our expectations attracting almost 250,000 visitors since it opened at Te Papa in December. We’re thrilled it’s proved to be such a huge hit and look forward to bringing this experience to Aucklanders and visitors to Auckland.”

The dynamic, interactive exhibition takes visitors through 75 years of Air New Zealand history - from flying boats to the very latest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, and into the future. It explores inspiring stories of the airline’s growth and innovation, highs and lows, through the unique lens of Air New Zealanders themselves.
