Canterbury Police executed two search warrants at residential properties in Canterbury yesterday (30 April 2015) and one today (1 May 2015) as part of Operation Focus, a two month prevention operation to reduce victimisation caused by drugs, gangs and organised crime.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Stewart said “Canterbury Police seized a number of items from a rural property near Oxford yesterday including a quantity of cannabis, three unsecured firearms and ammunition. The occupant of the rural address is yet to be formally interviewed by Police. A number of cannabis plants and dried cannabis were also seized following a search of residential properties in New Brighton (yesterday) and Halswell (today). Investigations into all three addresses are continuing.”

A 42 year old man from New Brighton is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on 6 May 2015 on a number of drug related charges including cultivating and processing cannabis.

A 50 year old man from Halswell has been summonsed to appear in Christchurch District Court on 21 May 2015 charged with a cultivating cannabis.

“Canterbury Police are committed to disrupting the supply of drugs and preventing the harm this illegal activity supports. It only takes one call to Police or Crimestoppers to stop crime and the availability of drugs in your community. If your friends or family use drugs or are involved in criminal offending to fund their habit we urge you to help them to break their habit and seek help” explained Detective Senior Sergeant Stewart.
