Trampers,
outdoor enthusiasts and local farmers are asked to keep
their eyes open for a police search dog which became
separated from his handler in the Mt Holdsworth area .
Three-year-old Thames, a sable coloured German Shepherd,
went missing in the Totara Creek – Red Creek area mid
Sunday afternoon as he was walking out with his handler and
other Wairarapa Search and Rescue squad members and civilian
volunteers at the end of an annual day-long training
exercise.
Teams have stayed in the bush overnight as
despite voice appeals for Thames and searches of the main
tracks and dense bush, the dog has yet to be found.
Police are hoping Thames, who is more used to tracking
and finding people instead of being the subject of a search,
is making his way down the mountain and is following stream
beds to safety.
Local farmers and others living near the
Mt Holdsworth access roads have also been asked to keep an
eye out for him. If anyone has seen him or finds him, please
contact the Wellington Police District Command Centre on 04
496 3473.
