Musicians invited to enter music videos in YouTube challenge

Rotorua musicians invited to enter music videos in YouTube challenge

Local musicians are being encouraged to get inspired and take part in the Rotorua YouTube Challenge during this year’s New Zealand Music Month (May).

The challenge, run by local woman Karin Vincent and supported by Rotorua Lakes Council (RLC) and Rotorua Trust, is inviting musicians to send in music video clips of themselves performing original works in a Rotorua location.

Spot prizes will be drawn and include professional recording studio time with Villa Productions Ltd valued at $1,000.

Council community arts advisor Marc Spijkerbosch said he encouraged local musicians to “get creative and go wild,” and show the world both their talent and Rotorua’s unique environment.

“Lots of local musicians have already signed up, including groups Fifth Sun, Engine Room, and Strangely Arousing, and we’d love it if others joined this drive to showcase Rotorua’s incredible musical flair on a global platform.”

Mr Spijkerbosch also acknowledged the continued support from Rotorua Trust which had once again come on board to help recognise and celebrate the district’s “formidable local talent” during Music Month.

Musicians should email their clips to nzmmrotorua@gmail.com throughout May. Clips are accepted in mp4 format, taken on any handheld device with digitally supported format. Links to Dropbox, WeTransfer or any file sharing domain are also welcome.

Clips will be loaded onto the NZ Music Month Rotorua YouTube channel and be broadcast during the month at various locations throughout the city.

Winners will be announced on Monday 1 June.
