Community activist recognised in civic awards

Pauline Swann will have her diverse services to Wellington recognised this Wednesday by Wellington City Council when she is given an Absolutely Positively Wellingtonian Award.

Pauline joined Save the Children New Zealand in 1967 and has been a member of the Wadestown Group of the Wellington Branch ever since. She also ran the Brandon Street shop from 1995 – 2011.

In 1999 Pauline joined Waterfront Watch and served as President from 2004 until 2014. During that time she devoted considerable time and energy to the role and has been instrumental in guiding the organisation.

Pauline is also an active member of many well-respected organisations including a local Probus Club and the Victoria Bridge Club.

Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says, “Pauline’s love for Wellington and her determined articulate contribution has been a positive force in the Capital.

“While Councils, past and present, by no means agree with every challenge made to Wellington Waterfront development, we recognise that vigorous criticism and debate has been essential in achieving quality open space and quality buildings. The ‘crucible of conflict’ has produced an outstanding place for everyone to enjoy.”

The APW Awards are a way for the Council to honour members of the community who have made outstanding or lengthy contributions to the Capital and its people.

The presentation of the awards will take place at the beginning of the full Council meeting, due to begin at 5.30pm, Wednesday 13 May, at Council’s Committee Room 1, 101 Wakefield Street.
