Elderly woman airlifted

Today at around lunchtime the Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched to the Coromandel town of Hahei where a 90 year old local woman received serious shoulder & pelvic injuries when the car she was a passenger in collided head on with another vehicle carrying foreign tourists.

The crash was 1 km west of Hahei township, the other people involved received moderate to minor injuries and were all treated at the scene by St John ambulance staff. The helicopter was despatched because of the potential seriousness of the crash and the distance to hospital. Patient was flown to Tauranga hospital.
