Toilet Issues

Toilet Issues

PRESS RELEASE

The door to a disabled toilet in Russell St has come in for more than its fair share of attention from vandals over the last couple of months – and Hastings District Council staff are determined to sort the problem out.

It had been rendered unusable four times in the last eight weeks mainly after the door lock had been deliberately broken - the first time with some kind of hefty weapon that also seriously damaged the door.

The damage from that attack took seven days to fix.

At other times damage had taken between two days and two weeks to remedy.
A new advisory system and an increase in the number of door locks kept in stock meant that if damage occurred it should be fixed within 48 hours, said maintenance group divisional manager Gary Drake.

He asks residents who notice damage to the toilet block, or any other public facility, to immediately call council on 871 5000 to report the issue.

“We need people to be our eyes and ears; to help us spot problems so we can fix them as fast as possible,” Drake said.
