Widespread flooding in the Kāpiti district has caused rivers and streams to rise and some residents have been evacuated from homes in Moa and Tui Roads, Raumati.

There are widespread road closures and many schools are closed.

An Civil Defence evacuation centre has been set up at the Community Centre in Paraparaumu and Raumati South school is on standby

Police in the central district are putting up signage advising motorists not to proceed south.

Residents concerned about rising flood waters are advised to move valuables to a safe place and, if concerned about their safety should call 111.

Residents are advised to stay away from Rivers and footbridges. We have reports of footbridges over the Waikanae river lifting.

The rain is forecast to ease this afternoon but a further 40mls is expected to fall this evening.

There is some sewage contamination of flood waters. For public health reasons, please stay out of water and roads where sump coves may have floated off.

State Highway 1 is closed south of Ihakara Street, Paraparaumu due to surface flooding.

Paekākāriki Hill road is also closed due to debris on the road

Valley Road, Emerald Glen Road and Waterfall Road in Raumati/Paraparaumu have been closed because of debris on the roads.

Trains have stopped running

Many schools across the district are closed

People are advised to postpone any unnecessary travel

Council teams are offering sandbags to affected households but these are in short supply. We are residents to pick up sandbags if they need them from the council depot in Fytefield Place, Paraparaumu.
